Dear Maddy (a letter to my 4 year old)
Dear Maddy,
Happy 4th birthday!
You, my dear, are so fun! Your sweet little voice makes me smile, especially since you still cant pronounce your “R”s, so you make them into “W” sounds: sorry is sowy, Harper is Hawpew, and cereal is ceweal. You make me laugh every day. You are such a goof. Whether its making silly faces or doing a crazy dance, you love to bring a smile to my face.
You are so generous. You are willing to give up something you have to help others feel better, especially your big sister Grace. You are definitely a peace maker when you want to be.
On the other hand, you are also crazy stubborn! haha. You will scream louder and longer than any other kid I know if you are truly upset. You hate brushing your hair. You are constantly making messes (usually involving food or kinetic sand), and it drives me crazy!
You love to create imaginative stories with Grace, and you two will play for hours non stop with your little figurines or barbie dolls. You are a fabulous explorer. You love to pick up little creatures (like sand crabs at the beach or roley poleys on our walks around the neighborhood). You aren’t afraid to get dirty or get knocked down by a wave.
You love to help around the house. Practically every day you ask me if you can help me with the dishes (it might just be because you like playing with water). You love to help me in the kitchen. Currently, you are learning how to crack an egg and measure ingredients for recipes.
You love your family fiercely. I was worried that you would have a hard time not being the baby of the family when Harper was born, but you have blossomed into a tender and thoughtful big sister. You are always on the watch to keep Harper safe, and daily you will pick up little toys or trash and say “choking hazard!” as you move them out of Harper’s reach.
Maddy, I love you so much. Thank you for being my baby and for teaching me so much. Happy 4th birthday!
Love,
Mommy
