We are having a baby BOY!
The news has been shared with the world and with our loved ones, and now it’s time for me to start recording my own thoughts about the experience.
I found out I was pregnant with Baby #4 just a few days after Harper’s first birthday. My kids had been a little sick, and I wondered if the naucea I felt was me getting sick too or if it was something else. I felt a nudge to take a pregnancy test, and quickly discovered that I was indeed pregnant. When Andrew came home that night, I asked him to help me with dinner by getting something out of the oven. He opened the door to the oven and found a note on aluminum foil that said, “Baby #4 is cooking”. He was in shock, but he was also thrilled.
It took us a while to figure out what path we wanted to follow for this pregnancy. With Andrew’s job change, we had also changed our insurance, and this gave us more room for personal choice. In the end (with a lot of research, prayer, conversations, and consideration) we’ve decided to hire a midwife and plan for a homebirth. And let me just say, I LOVE my midwife. I interviewed/called a few medical providers, and felt most comfortable with her and her style. After meeting with her in our first prenatal appointment, I left feeling like I was floating on clouds. It was such a positive interaction, with so much detail and love that is often ignored in the mainstream medical system. It was awesome.
At that point, I was totally guessing how far along I was. Because I never started my period again while nursing Harper, I wasn’t exactly sure when we had conceived. So I guessed I was at about 13-14 weeks when we had our first appointment. The midwife asked me some detailed questions and decided that she thought I was about 17-20 weeks along. Woo hoo! (This is similar to when I was pregnant with Maddy and came to my first ultrasound thinking I was 10 weeks when I was actually 15 weeks along!). Since I was already so far along, I could schedule my anatomy ultrasound for just a few weeks out. I found an amazing ultrasound technician who works remotely and could come to my parents’ home the day after Christmas. It was such a cool experience to lay on comfort of the couch, have my kids and family around me, and get to watch the ultrasound images/video pop up. We all looked anxiously as we awaited to find out the gender, and I cried when I realized we were having a little boy. I am going to have a son! Baby was so wiggly as the technician took his measurements and let us know that everything looked healthy and normal.
Well, those are most of the updates so far. I just started feeling little man moving in these past few days (I am now at about 19 weeks). I am so thrilled to be welcoming a new little soul into our family. He is already so so loved.
